Drainage industry jobs in the Manchester area

The Greater Manchester region is a pivotal centre of activity for Lanes Group, the UK’s largest privately owned specialist drainage contractor. As such, our Manchester hub located in Eccles is one of our most important depots, and we’re always on the lookout for talented new recruits to join our Manchester team.

Located right beside the M602 in Salford, our Eccles site offers a 24-hour emergency service for tackling blocked drains in the North West region, and also acts as a service centre for our vehicle fleet In recent years, we added two new buildings and extensive plant holding areas to the original site, which has allowed us to accommodate our award-winning and hugely successful sewer renovation division and its production facility.

The Eccles depot now offers a wide variety of different roles, with dedicated departments for health and safety, transport and marketing, in addition to the core drainage and engineering facilities.

Staff who join our Manchester team will have the opportunity to work in a busy, lively and friendly environment, as multidisciplinary teams work together to deliver cutting-edge drainage and sewage management solutions to domestic and commercial clients across the north west and Greater Manchester, while also coordinating sewer relining projects across the whole of the UK.

We’re looking for talented, motivated workers to join the Eccles depot, and have a number of vacancies open for skilled professionals who are looking for an opportunity to explore a variety of responsibilities, while enjoying strong prospects for long-term career development.

Who we employ at the Manchester depot

HGV driver/operators

We are always on the lookout for qualified HGV operators to apply for our Manchester-based driver/operator job vacancies, and take the wheel of one of our distinctive fleet of Lanes vehicles.

Much more than basic driver roles, our vehicle operator positions see staff getting directly involved in carrying out essential engineering, repair and maintenance work, while interacting directly to clients and providing top-notch customer service. Drivers will receive extensive training on the use of our top-of-the-range tools and equipment to prepare them for the role.

As such, prior drainage industry experience is beneficial but not essential, making this an ideal opportunity for professional drivers with backgrounds in other sectors to retrain in an exciting new line of work.

Roles include:

Engineers

Our engineering crew are at the heart of everything we do at Lanes Group, and we are among the biggest employers of drainage engineers in the UK.

Our team of qualified engineers in Eccles are responsible for imaging, repairing and unblocking drains and sewers of all shapes and sizes across the Manchester region, working with some of the most sophisticated technology available and serving clients from multiple sectors.

These highly skilled jobs will give you the opportunity to work alongside some of the most qualified engineers in the industry, while dealing directly with and providing reassurance to customers in need.

Roles include:

Groundworkers

Many of our drainage projects require renovation and excavation work, ranging from straightforward excavations of individual pipes to large-scale projects that involve moving hundreds of tonnes of material. Our groundworkers and small civils workers are in charge of making sure this process is completed efficiently, with minimal disruption for the resident or property owner.

We are always looking for new excavation operatives to join our team in Manchester, and have plenty to offer candidates with an affinity for physical outdoor work.

Roles include:

Office-based

Lanes Group couldn’t do what it does without our office-based staff overseeing our administration, planning, management and support functions as efficiently as they do.

Our administrative staff in Eccles are dedicated to building a strong relationship with clients, while providing our field-based engineers and drivers with the information they need to complete their urgent work in a timely manner.

Anyone looking to take on one of these roles should be highly organised, with a talent for working as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Manchester staff stories

Our Manchester depot is one of our most dynamic, exciting and fulfilling workplaces, where no two days are ever the same. As such, our Eccles-based staff have been able to share a varied selection of success stories with us over the years.

For example, bid team manager Haylie Orton has enjoyed years of success at Lanes after pivoting away from a planned career in genetics, while business administrator apprentice Georgia Whitelegg has been able to gain priceless experience since joining the Lanes marketing team straight out of school.

Meanwhile, jet vac tanker engineer Kyle Smith has had no regrets since leaving behind his old job as a painter and decorator in 2015 to join Lanes, and former teacher Deborah Sutton has become an invaluable team member in her role as customer relationship marketing training and support officer at Lanes.
