Senior business development manager responsibilities
As a senior business development manager at Lanes, you’ll play a pivotal role in driving growth and building relationships with both new and existing business clients. Based at one of our national depots, you’ll be responsible for identifying opportunities, strengthening our client base, and promoting the full range of Lanes Group services.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Attracting and securing new business opportunities while maintaining strong relationships with existing accounts.
- Developing and delivering a business development strategy that aligns with revenue growth targets and long-term business objectives.
- Working closely with depot managers to support sales and account management, while assisting in the project management of client requirements.
- Providing valuable data and market insights to our centralised marketing team, helping shape campaigns and identify market trends.
- Producing weekly sales figures, quotes and reports to track performance and highlight growth opportunities.

This is a hands-on role that involves regular stakeholder engagement, and proactive outreach, including cold calling where required. You’ll be expected to demonstrate a proven ability to build strong relationships, secure strategic partnerships and play a critical role in expanding Lanes’ market presence.

- 23 days of annual leave plus bank holidays, rising to 26 days with length of service.
- Access to a company-wide health scheme.
- A workplace pension scheme and childcare vouchers.
- Company car usage and free parking at the majority of our depots and offices.
We also create an environment that values development opportunities and teamwork. Our supportive culture means you’ll always have colleagues behind you as you work to identify opportunities, build client partnerships and contribute to business growth.
Skills, qualifications and experience

- A background in the service industry or reactive maintenance sector, where building relationships and managing client expectations is a daily requirement.
- A full UK driving licence to support regular travel and on-site client meetings.
Experience in drainage, construction, waste or utilities would be an advantage, but it isn’t essential. We provide full training to give you the sector-specific knowledge needed to succeed. What matters most is your drive to learn, your proven ability to adapt and the flexibility to apply your sales expertise in a new industry.
