Business Development Manager Jobs: responsibilities involved
As an experienced business development manager, you will be based in one of our national depots and tasked with attracting and sustaining new business clients, as well as servicing the requirements of the existing customer base through the promotion of the company’s full range of services.
This will involve sourcing new business opportunities, driving sales to promote the growth of the company, and providing detailed information to the centralised Lanes marketing department that may be relevant to potential key accounts. Additionally, you will support the regional depot manager in achieving budget sales targets, assist in the sales management process where required, and produce weekly quote levels to accompany sales figures and reports.
This is a hands-on role that will involve frequent site visits, cold-calling and business-to-business interfacing to sell drainage solutions that fit customer requirements and deliver the best possible outcomes.
Salary and working conditions
Lanes Group is known for offering competitive rates of pay to all of our employees throughout our organisation, and business development managers are no exception. We offer a generous salary that reflects your level of expertise and experience, and, since this is a commission-based role, you’ll have ample opportunity to earn more.
However, that’s only scratching the surface when it comes to the industry-leading benefits that Lanes can offer its staff. Business development managers will receive a basic holiday entitlement of 23 days of paid leave, plus bank holidays, with the potential to extend this up to a maximum of 26 days the longer they are with the organisation.
All employees will also receive access to an optional company-wide health scheme, a workplace pension and childcare vouchers, plus company car usage and free car parking across 80% of our depots and offices.
What’s more, we pride ourselves on fostering a friendly and supportive working environment, so you’ll always feel that your colleagues are behind you in everything you do.
Skills, qualifications and experience
Exceptional sales and customer service skills are key to success in this role, so we will expect candidates to demonstrate some degree of previous field sales experience, as well as good IT literacy and presentation skills. A history working in the service industry or the reactive maintenance sector is also important for the role, as is a full UK driving licence.
Experience within the drainage, construction, waste or utilities industries would be an advantage, but isn’t essential, as you’ll receive the training you need to acquire all of the sector-specific knowledge you need to succeed. Much more important is a clear desire to learn about our product range, and the flexibility to leverage your existing sales skills in new ways.
Future prospects
Joining Lanes Group in a business development manager job could be the first step towards a range of exciting and dynamic career opportunities within our organisation. We are known as a company that invests in talent for the long term, and you will therefore have plenty of scope to grow and develop your capabilities with us.
Throughout your career with Lanes, you’ll be able to work with a diverse range of colleagues and clients across the country; staff can also expect to see their professional opportunities evolve and blossom the longer they stay with us, as our solid year-on-year growth strategy and robust infrastructure means our success looks set to continue for years to come.
