Administrator Jobs
At Lanes Group, our office-based staff play just as important a role in the delivery of our industry-leading drainage and wastewater solutions as our engineers out in the field. Depot administrators are particularly crucial to the smooth running of our business network, and this is evident in how many administration jobs we are able to offer.
We’re on the lookout for talented new candidates to join our team in a full-time permanent position, providing an exciting opportunity for new and experienced administrators to provide key support to the depot managers of our nationwide offices. Our admin staff also work closely with operations managers to help them carry out their practical work as efficiently as possible.
Our administrative work is essential in ensuring that our broad customer base is always able to receive the high-quality service they’ve come to expect from Lanes. As such, admin jobs at Lanes Group are ideal for candidates with a strong attention to detail, and an aptitude for using management and organisational tools and software. Those with the right skills will be rewarded with significant opportunities to build a lasting career with the UK’s most successful privately owned drainage contractor.

Administrators: job responsibilities involved
Our administrators will be based within their local depot and tasked with handling incoming and outgoing calls from Lanes customers, engineers and the drainage network. They will provide administrative support to ensure all job packs, paperwork and reports are completed on time, thereby allowing work to be invoiced promptly and suppliers paid correctly.
There will also be general administrative duties, including photocopying, filing and handling post, and coordination with the sales team; additionally, administrators will collate timesheets for engineers for payroll to process, to make sure their colleagues receive their salaries on time.
We are therefore aiming to hire skilled communicators who are highly organised and dedicated to high standards of customer service, as well as being able to operate well under pressure. However, no single individual will ever be working completely alone, as our policy at Lanes Group is to make sure that all staff members are provided with the support and stable working environment they need to thrive as part of our depot teams.
Salary and working conditions
Lanes Group is known for offering competitive rates of pay to our employees, and administrators are no exception to this. You can therefore expect to negotiate a generous average salary that accurately reflects the expertise and experience you are bringing to the role.
However, there is more to the Lanes Group company culture than simply a generous pay rate per annum. Office employees can expect to benefit from working Monday to Friday in an engaging professional environment that is geared as much towards enjoyment as productivity, so you’ll always feel that you can count on the support of your colleagues.
Moreover, Lanes employees can access a number of excellent benefits to encourage and reward their long-term loyalty and job satisfaction. As a top employer, we provide regular training to help staff develop their skills and capabilities over time, as well as 23 days of holiday pay entitlement, plus bank holidays. Access to an optional company-wide health scheme, a workplace pension and childcare vouchers are also part of our basic offering, in addition to free on-site car parking at 80% of our depots and offices.
Skills, qualifications and experience
We are looking for able, enthusiastic and passionate administrator job candidates who are accurate and detail-focused in their work. They must also be highly organised, with good diary management skills. Good all-round communication skills and excellent IT skills are essential for the successful candidate.
Qualities such as these are more important for job applicants than any specific prior work history or formal qualifications, although previous administration experience is ideal. Experience with systems and databases is advantageous, as Lanes uses tools such as the HR and payroll platform Cascade and the AX purchase order system in our work.
However, training will be available for all new employees to ensure they have the skills they need to succeed. We’re particularly keen to focus on our candidates’ ability to communicate effectively with a variety of people, to relay information between customers and colleagues, and to approach their work with a positive, can-do attitude and a real commitment to high standards and continuous improvement.
Future prospects
Joining Lanes Group as an administrator could be the first step towards a range of exciting and dynamic career opportunities, as we are an organisation that prides itself on investing in talent and helping employees achieve their potential over an extended period.
As you progress through your career, you’ll be able to acquire new skills and capabilities, allowing you to take on different types of work and become an experienced administrator, with a job title that reflects this expertise. It’s also possible to find work opportunities with Lanes wherever you are in the UK, as we currently employ more than 2,200 people across our 25 regional offices and utility hubs throughout the country, from our head office in Leeds and our busy London office, through to our regional depots in Scotland and Wales.
