Depot lead: responsibilities
We are currently hiring additional depot leads across our network in response to our continued growth and rising demand for our services, meaning that staff in these roles will have a big part to play in delivering effective solutions to wastewater network and drainage problems for an ever-expanding base of customers.
Depot leads will be expected to provide key support to the regional manager of their designated office, while also supporting the field engineer team in carrying out their practical work as efficiently as possible. They will be asked to take responsibility for a broad spectrum of compliance issues, while helping to oversee the secure and effective management of the depot, stores, roads and CCTV downloads.
Much of the work involved will be administrative in nature, so the ideal candidate for this role will have a good attention to detail and an aptitude for using management and organisational tools and software. However, a certain amount of manual handling will also be part of the day-to-day work, meaning depot leads can expect to get involved in a mixture of physical and planning-related tasks.
Salary and working conditions
At Lanes Group, we believe in rewarding talent with competitive rates of pay tailored to individual experience levels, so depot leads can expect to receive a salary that reflects the skills they are bringing to the workplace. Overtime options are also available, meaning there are always opportunities to increase your earning power further.
Working at Lanes also gives staff access to a number of attractive employment benefits to encourage and reward long-term loyalty and job satisfaction. These include an optional workplace health plan, an auto-enrolment pension scheme and childcare vouchers, while those in full-time roles - including depot leads - will be able to claim 20 days of paid holiday a year, in addition to bank holidays.
Free onsite parking is also provided across our the vast majority of our network of offices and depots, and we can promise the kind of friendly working environment that will help you achieve maximum productivity and make you feel supported as a valued member of a tight-knit team.
Skills, qualifications and experience
Depot leads are vital in overseeing the smooth planning and operation of our core service delivery model, so it’s essential that applicants for this role are meticulous in their work and understand how to use programs such as Microsoft Excel to monitor working practices.
The ideal candidate will have some prior experience of working in a depot environment and a good working knowledge of health and safety standards, as well as some training in the use of common professional IT systems. However, these are not essentials, as we will be able to provide training to bring less experienced candidates up to speed on our way of working.
The only qualification that is strictly necessary for this role is a full UK driving licence and a means of commuting to and from your place of work, and the ability to carry out manual handling tasks where necessary. Generally speaking, this is a role in which aptitude and attitude are more important than prior experience and credentials, so we will be considering a wide range of candidates with the right potential and transferable skills.
Future prospects
At Lanes Group, we’re dedicated to giving our employees the opportunity to build a fulfilling long-term career within the Lanes family, and are committed to investing in staff members to make this a reality. It’s a key foundational element of our success to date, and has helped us become one of the most respected players in our industry.
Depot leads can therefore expect to receive regular training to help them acquire additional skills and competencies over time, giving them the opportunity to take on new responsibilities and advance their seniority. No two days are ever the same at Lanes, and this dynamism gives our staff plenty of opportunities to learn and diversify their professional experiences as they work alongside more than 2,200 colleagues spread across the country.
The principle of diversity is also at the heart of our ongoing effort to position ourselves as an equal opportunities employer, welcoming all applications from underrepresented areas of the community. No matter your background or prior experiences, you’ll be given the same chance to succeed at Lanes Group.
