With a depot based in Eastleigh, just north of Southampton city centre, the local team provides a complete range of commercial & residential drain and sewer services for clients who are often based in rural areas. This includes septic tank servicing and installation, as well as flood management and emergency response services to protect residents living near the Test and Itchen rivers.

Since the company was founded in 1992, Lanes have grown from a team of 15 into the UK’s biggest privately-owned drainage contractor, providing national coverage with the help of our 2,200 employees across the UK and Ireland.

Lanes’ Southampton team are always on call and ready to respond to emergency situations at locations along England’s south coast. This includes some unusual jobs - in 2012, our Southampton team was called to survey and repair the drainage system at Marwell Wildlife in Winchester, Hampshire, where the work was overseen by the local monkeys!

Who we employ at the Southampton depot

HGV driver/operators

We are seeking qualified HGV operators to take the wheel of one of our distinctive fleet of Lanes vehicles and fill our Southampton-based driver/operator job vacancies.

These vehicle operator positions are much more than standard driving roles, with direct involvement in essential engineering, drainage clearance, repair and maintenance work. Staff will receive extensive training on the use of our top-of-the-range high-pressure water jetting tools and equipment, and will also be expected to deliver a top-notch customer service experience for clients.

Prior drainage industry experience is beneficial but not essential, which makes this a potentially ideal opportunity for drivers with backgrounds in other sectors to retrain in an exciting new field.

Driver roles include:

• HGV drivers
• Jet vac operators

Engineers

Lanes Group are among the biggest employers of drainage engineers in the UK. Our team of qualified engineers in Southampton are responsible for CCTV surveys, as well as repairing and unblocking drains and sewers of all shapes and sizes across the region.

Working with some of the most sophisticated technology available and serving both domestic and commercial clients, our engineers are highly skilled and ready to handle any challenge. Those joining the team as a drainage engineer will have the opportunity to work alongside some of the most qualified professionals in the industry today.

Drainage engineer roles include:

Groundworkers

Many of our drainage projects require renovation and excavation work. Our groundworkers and small civils workers are in charge of making sure this process is completed efficiently, minimising any potential disruption for the resident or property owner.

Ranging from straightforward excavations of individual pipes to large-scale digs involving hundreds of tonnes of material, our excavation projects can be physically demanding, which is why candidates joining the team should have an affinity for outdoor work.

Groundworker roles include:

• Excavation operatives and assistants

Office-based

The office-based staff at Southampton oversee the administration, planning and management of all our work at Lanes. They are responsible for building strong relationships with clients, while coordinating with team members to provide the information they need on the job, whether they are a field-based engineer, driver, civil engineering contractor or any other member of staff.

As such, our office workers have a crucial role to play in our success at Lanes, providing crucial support, operational knowledge and coordination across our entire operation. Anyone looking to take on an office-based position should be highly organised, with a talent for working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
