Our groundworkers are essential to the construction and drainage projects we deliver across the UK. They prepare sites, carry out excavations, support the installation and maintenance of deep drainage systems and other essential groundworks. You’ll be part of a close-knit team working on a variety of sites across your region, from urban locations to more remote areas.
Lanes is the UK’s largest privately owned drainage contractor, with 25 regional offices and depots across the country. As such, we are often hiring multiple candidates for both open and Monday-to-Friday opportunities, and we can provide varied long-term and temporary contract opportunities for groundworkers, with plenty of pathways for career development.

Due to the range of fields we provide for, some opportunities may require you to reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work. We often work on projects based in urban locations, but frequently help those located in more remote areas of the UK as well. Having an up-to-date, clean UK driving licence can help, but is not usually necessary.
Working as a groundworker is hands-on and physically demanding. You’ll be:
You’ll be outdoors in all weather, often working long days, so physical fitness is essential. Experience in groundworks or construction skills is an advantage, but we also recruit applicants who are willing to learn.
