Who Are Lanes?
Lanes Group was established in Leeds in 1992 with just 15 members of staff. Since then, we have grown into the UK’s largest privately owned drainage contractor, with more than 2,200 employees working across 25 depots, utility hubs and offices nationwide.

Groundworker and Excavation Roles at Lanes
At Lanes, groundworkers are part of our excavation teams. Before any major work can begin, it's our excavation specialists that start the job, giving us access to the pipes and ground infrastructure we need to repair and assess what needs to be done.

What Skills and Experience Do You Need to Become a Groundworker?
Delivering essential infrastructure services requires certain skills. In some cases, previous experience in construction, groundworks, civil engineering, drainage, highways, maintenance or excavation will also be beneficial. At Lanes, we look at:

Working Hours, Travel and Outdoor Work
Groundworker jobs are practical outdoor roles. At Lanes, our teams are based out of our depots, located all over the UK. You will travel from the depot to various commercial and domestic sites where our projects are taking place.
The work will often be physical, and almost always outdoors, across the seasons. Many of our people choose this kind of work because they don't want to sit behind a desk, and find it rewarding to work with their hands, solve practical problems and see the results of the job they have completed.
Working patterns, hours, travel expectations and pay per hour vary by vacancy. All roles are full time, and some may come with travel support, a company vehicle, London weighting or other role-specific benefits where stated in the job description. In many cases, overtime will be available, allowing you to boost your earnings beyond your base-line contracted hours.
