The Slough team operates as the exclusive wastewater network maintenance partner to Thames Water, the largest water supplier in the UK with 15 million customers. We employ more than 900 wastewater engineers and support staff in Slough, operating more than 350 specialist drainage vehicles and tackling more than 1,000 maintenance jobs every day.

Who we employ at the Slough utility hub

HGV driver/operators

We offer a wide range of driver/operator job vacancies in Slough, and are currently looking for qualified HGV operators to take the wheel of our distinctive fleet of state-of-the-art Lanes vehicles. These roles go beyond simply driving, and will also see staff members getting directly involved in carrying out essential engineering, repair and maintenance work using top-of-the-range tools and equipment, while dealing with domestic, commercial and utilities sector customers.

Notably, these roles do not necessarily depend on prior drainage industry experience, meaning professional drivers with backgrounds in other sectors can make a fresh start in a varied new line of work, receiving all the training they will need to succeed.

• Tanker drivers
• HGV drivers
• Jet vac operators

Engineers

Our engineering crew are the lifeblood of everything we do in Slough, and Lanes Group is among the biggest employers of drainage engineers in the UK. In these roles, you’ll be responsible for imaging, repairing and unblocking drains and sewers of all shapes and sizes, working with some of the most sophisticated technology available.

These highly skilled jobs will give you the opportunity to work directly with customers in need, alongside some of the most qualified engineers in the industry.

Office-based

Our office-based staff are the behind-the-scenes heroes at Lanes Group, working tirelessly to provide the field engineers and drivers with all of the information they need to meet the needs of customers in rapidly evolving emergency situations.

These roles are ideal for highly organised people with a talent for building strong relationships with colleagues and a good rapport with customers. We offer flexible shift arrangements, including four-on-four-off working patterns, and early and late shifts from Monday to Friday.

Slough staff stories

Our Slough utility hub offers a highly dynamic, fast-moving work environment in which no two days are ever the same, and where each member of the team is valued for their unique expertise. It’s a workplace that has proven to be an ideal environment for many employees to thrive, and we have the success stories to prove it.

Carole Gallo, a street works manager at the Slough site, has been with the organisation since 2012 and leads a dedicated team in managing busy traffic flows, allowing wastewater engineers to work safely on drains and sewers. It’s a job she has grown to love, giving her an opportunity to liaise with colleagues and local authorities to deliver a safe working environment for our crews and for the public.
