That’s why we offer something different: a stable, long-term trucking career within a company that values skilled drivers, supports career advancement and creates space for you to build a rewarding career with real progression.
Most trucking companies focus on transport alone, but life as a Lanes driver offers much more variety. Naturally, you’ll still spend time behind the wheel of our fleet of commercial vehicles - a role ideal for people who enjoy driving, meeting fellow drivers and other operatives, and taking on different routes around the country. However, our drivers also play an active role in the repair and maintenance work we carry out every day.
With hands-on training from day one, you’ll learn how to operate advanced jetting equipment, support drainage engineers on-site and work directly with customers. For many drivers, this mix of driving and practical work creates a more fulfilling daily life than traditional long-haul driving or owner-operator models. It’s a chance to develop new skills without needing a college degree.
Our tanker units are refined pieces of kit, and require safe and intelligent handling by well-trained operators. Our driver operators are responsible for getting the vehicle to the right location, but their skill sets come into their own as they then step up to use our advanced equipment to resolve client issues.
One of the downsides of traditional driving jobs is that life on the road can sometimes feel a little lonely. For many drivers, one of the biggest challenges in the trucking industry is the isolation – long hours alone, long stretches between truck stops and limited interaction with other drivers. At Lanes, teamwork is central to everything we do. Instead of being out on the open road for days at a time, you’ll work closely with colleagues across departments, enjoying the support of colleagues and a genuine sense of community.
You’ll also deal directly with clients on-site, answering questions and reassuring them during urgent callouts. For drivers who enjoy meeting people and want a role with more human connection than a typical transport goods job, Lanes offers a refreshing alternative.
Drivers want stability, fair pay and good benefits - and Lanes delivers on all three. Our packages include:
While many trucking companies focus exclusively on mileage or freight quotas, Lanes prioritises the wellbeing of its drivers. We recognise the essential role they play and reward that commitment accordingly.
Many drivers experience high turnover in the transportation industry because the work feels temporary or unpredictable. At Lanes, we offer something few companies can match: long-term job security within a national company with 25 depots across England, Scotland and Wales. Experienced drivers and new recruits alike have clear opportunities to progress.
Rather than offering one-off gigs, we give drivers the chance to progress within our organisation, providing regular training to staff to expand their skills and competencies, diversifying their responsibilities over time. This could mean becoming a fully-qualified drainage engineer, or acquiring other transferable technical skills - if you have ambitions you want to pursue, then Lanes will help you do it.
If you want to find out more about the full range of benefits and opportunities that becoming a Lanes driver can bring you, then check out our careers page for drivers; it could represent a first step down an exciting new path!
