For professional drivers, taking on a driving job with Lanes Group is more than just another gig - it could be the first step on an exciting new career path that provides long-term development opportunities, lasting job security and the chance to broaden and expand your skills over time.
As the UK’s largest privately owned specialist drainage contractor, we pride ourselves on being the type of employer that invests in talent and provides salaries and employment benefits that go above and beyond the industry standard. What’s more, many of our roles do not require specific prior drainage experience, meaning they may be ideal for those with transferable driving skills who are looking to try something a bit different.
If you’re interested in applying for a driving role at Lanes, then read on to find out more about our application and interview process, and how to maximise your chances of securing a role with us.
As a nationwide drainage and wastewater solutions provider, we rely heavily on our team of drivers to man our fleet of state-of-the-art vehicles and assist in performing essential repair and maintenance work for millions of customers across the UK.
We are currently looking for new tanker drivers, HGV drivers, HGV mechanics and jet vac operators, and we are seeking candidates with the requisite licenses to operate HGVs, as well as completed Certificates of Professional Competence and digital tachograph cards, where necessary.
Prior experience of operating tankers and high-pressure jetting and vacuum units would be welcomed, but this is by no means essential, as Lanes is prepared to provide able candidates with training to bring them up to speed with what they need to know. Having a positive, learning-oriented attitude, a willingness to get involved in manual work and a dedication to maintaining high standards are the most important qualities to possess.
To make it as easy as possible for drivers to apply for a role at Lanes, our initial application process is delivered entirely online; all you need to do is browse our list of vacancies and click the ‘Apply’ button next to the role you’re interested in to access the online application form.
To complete this form, you’ll need to provide the following information:
If your initial online application is successful and meets the required criteria, we'll be in touch to discuss the role in more detail and talk to you about the next steps of your application. Note that it’s possible to apply for more than one role at a time, so feel free to submit applications for any relevant positions that suit your skills.
Once you’ve cleared the application stage, the next step will be to attend a face-to-face interview at the relevant hiring depot, where you can find out more information about what the job involves.
Even more importantly, this will give us the opportunity to get to know you better on a personal and professional level - and for you to find out what you want to know about us as a prospective employer. So don’t be afraid to ask any questions you might have at this stage - after all, this process is all about establishing whether or not you’ll be a good fit for Lanes’ working culture, and making sure you have all the information you need to succeed.
Please note that the format of the interview itself can vary depending on the role; should there be any specific requirements, such as a presentation or assessment, then you will be given plenty of time to prepare.
After the interview has been concluded, we’ll spend some time considering your candidacy before letting you know whether you’ve got the job. We’re very aware of the pressures that come with looking for work, so we aim to operate as efficiently and effectively as possible to minimise your time investment in this selection process.
If you manage to secure a driving role with us, then the next step will be to organise a start date, with a full HR and health and safety induction to be carried out with your line manager or immediate supervisor on your first day of work. From there, we’ll be able to integrate you into our supportive team-based working environment, and start briefing you on everything you need to know to make a success of your career at Lanes.
Meanwhile, for those who are not successful with their the first application, it’s worth bearing in mind that we encourage all candidates to apply again if and when a suitable role arises.
