If you’re interested in kickstarting your career as a CCTV drainage engineer, we’ve got you covered. Take a look at all of the relevant skills, qualifications and experience required to secure this specific type of role at Lanes Group.
One of the main challenges of any sewage engineer role is visibility and accessibility, making it incredibly important that we are equipped with the latest technology, most advanced equipment to help us understand what is happening in the drains and sewers. We rely on our team of skilled individuals to safely carry out any drainage works quickly and efficiently.
CCTV drainage engineers are crucial to the success of our work, as they make inspecting pipework and drain/sewer interiors possible without manual excavation and with minimal disruption. CCTV drainage engineers are in high demand as they provide essential, high-value work to both domestic and commercial clients.
Typically, a CCTV drainage engineer at Lanes will be working from one of our custom-equipped, hi-tech vans and will visit a broad range of clients from residential, commercial, and industrial to rail, road, and utility across a patch of the UK. As a CCTV drainage engineer, your main responsibilities will be to:
It’s important that you have some previous experience working in the drainage industry in general, and have worked with CCTV cameras before. However, at Lanes Group we provide our employees with extensive training in all aspects of health and safety and drainage work.
Wincan Software Experience
Wincan software is an industry-leading sewage inspection tool that is used by drainage engineers across the world. If you hope to become a CCTV drainage engineer, it would be highly beneficial to have had experience using this in a previous role.
As this role is fairly technical and requires proficiency with the latest software and systems, having some relevant knowledge is always useful. In terms of qualifications required, you will need the following:
A Full UK Driving License
You must hold a full UK driving license with no more than three penalty points. This is due to the transportation requirements of the role - you will be required to travel to different locations.
OS19X Certification
You must also be able to demonstrate that you have an OS19X certificate. This course runs over five days and is for CCTV survey team leaders, rig managers, and quality controllers that are responsible for analysing and classifying pipe sewer conditions to the WRc Manual of Sewer Condition Classification.
The course consists of teaching participants the below:
Once you have completed this course, you will receive a EUSR card for OS19X - Pipe Sewer Condition Classification - MSCC 5th Edition.
OS19X is one of a number of relevant qualifications that CCTV drainage engineers can hold. All of the following certifications are applicable to this role:
High-Pressure Water Jetting Certification
As you will be handling high-pressure water jets and systems, it is important that you have a high-pressure water jetting certification.
This course is not only useful for those that will be required to use high-pressure water jetting equipment on a regular basis, but it is also beneficial for individuals that supervise or manage staff using this type of equipment.
This course consists of two modules: Health and Safety responsibilities and Health and Safety legislation. The content of the course will cover all aspects of how to safely and effectively handle water jetting equipment. It will typically cover cleaning and surface preparation, water jetting hazards, water jetting injuries, personal protective equipment, operational procedures, and more.
Once this course is completed, you will receive a Water Jetting Association Certificate and ID Card - this will be valid for 60 months.
Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) Card
A CSCS card provides proof that you have had the relevant training and hold the necessary qualifications to safely work on a construction site. This is important when applying for a CCTV drainage engineer role as you will be working in a number of different high-risk environments.
You can carry out this training online and once completed, apply for your CSCS card. The course covers essential health and safety information such as fire prevention, working at height, occupational health, and manual handling as well as other aspects of construction-based health and safety.
New Roads and Street Works Act (NRSWA)
This is a training qualification and certification for working in confined spaces, which is extremely useful (but not essential) if you’re applying for a drainage engineer role - due to the environment you will be working in.
